Hello Summer!

Summer is here! What it means to me may not be what it does for others. Yes, I enjoy going to the beach, sitting in the sand and going in the water for a swim. Lying in the sand tanning is not for me, but I tan anyway as I go about my activities at the beach. For one, I always walk the seashore and look for the treasures of the sea......... coral, rocks, shells, driftwood and more. I paint on shells and driftwood and just enjoy the texture of the rocks and coral. I am always thinking that I will make something with these treasures, but the collection is growing. Sometimes I do, but the hunt for the treasures, the beauty of my finds and the peace I feel as I walk the beach is enough for me. As I walk, I also look around and try to capture, in photos,  the beauty that surrounds me, down to the sea foam in between my toes.

I am twenty minutes away from the beach and from feeling like I am in paradise. Others live in places that a seashore may be a long car drive or even a flight away. I have found a way to share some of these photos in a couple of sites that make prints and products for others to enjoy.

A Look Back!

The year 2013, was full of surprises. For one, I discovered that I enjoy seeing my art on fashion.  What better way to feel good all day than to look at your art as you look at yourself. I joined a company called Vividly and decided that it was way too much fun to stop.

As if that wasn't enough, through Vividly I found out about a contest for another fashion house in New York, Elsa and Me. To my surprise, my design was chosen and my dress is available on their site.

I also decided to make my art available to other companies and joined Kess Inhouse. This company offers home decor products. Through them,  I am able to offer my art on placemats, cutting boards and more.

Looking back is always great and inspiring, but looking forward is the only way to go. I want to sketch daily and further develop my art. This includes portraits that I have always feared.  Stick around in 2014 and see the new challenges I tackle.

"Willy" Found A Home

Last month I was in South Miami and noticed that “Willy”, the manatee, was no longer on the corner of 57th Avenue and Sunset Drive. I contacted the festival manager and she said that the manatees were removed for adoption. I asked her to keep me informed as to where Willy would end up.

To my surprise, I received a nice email last week from a man named Danny. He adopted Willy as a birthday gift for his wife Beth. How nice is that?  He wanted to let me know that Willy had a few scratches due to his move and would I be willing to fix them.

Willy did not go very far. He now resides permanently with this lovely young couple, not far from his previous location.  On Saturday, I went to touch up Willy and met Danny and Beth.  Below is a photo of where he stands temporarily. He may be moved outdoors in the near future.

Thanks Danny and Beth for selecting Willy out of all of the ones available for adoption. I am glad to know he will be loved and care for by you. Enjoy!

Tick Tock..........Wall Clocks!

Whether we like it or not, we are ruled by the 24 hours in a day. We seem to have clocks in every room of the house.  We must get up at a certain time, to be able to get to work on time, stay there for a specified period of time, etc.  Time…....…can’t ignore it.

Deny Designs has decided to have us enjoy the way we look at time. You may not like the time the clock tells you or where you need to be, but you can always enjoy the art on it.  Deny Designs has given us the beauty of original art on the faces of  the clocks.  To view the entire collection click here.

What Kind of Painter Are you?

Photography plays a big role in the life of a painter. Many of us paint directly by looking at the photo or at times the photo is just an inspiration to a work of art. I have taken a couple of art classes in the past few years and it is funny to see how different art teachers have an approach to photographs. I had a teacher that did not want to see realistic paintings. He would say if you want it to look like the photo……just look at the photo. I have also had teachers that I have had to stop them because they were so detailed and realistic that they wanted me to paint even the smallest twig in the photo.  Here’s an example of a painting inspired by a photo. Can you see how I changed it?
