Painting Pleasures

Painting has provided me lots of pleasure. I enjoy the process and I enjoy the result.....sometimes. There is always pleasure when you make a sale. It means someone likes the painting enough to buy it and look at it in their home.  Another pleasure is when you enter a show and the juror selects your painting to be part of the exhibition. Friends and family attend  and enjoy your piece. The icing on the exhibition cake is being awarded a prize. That may not happen often, but one keeps striving.

I have found another modern day pleasure to painting and it is art licensing. This step adds functionality to your pieces and allows people worldwide to see your work. It also makes it possible to enjoy art in places other than on a wall. I have been fortunate to have a few companies that license my art. It is through these companies that I arrive at yet another pleasure; selling my art at retail stores. It is great to have seen my art available at Macy's, Bloomingdale, Wayfair, Amazon, Overstock,  and Bed Bath and Beyond. Enjoy a few below!

At Nordstrom!

When I was a young girl living in Miami Beach, newly arrived from Cuba, and walking down Lincoln Road, I could only look at the windows of the high end shops and dream. My dreams then were to one day be able to afford those beautiful things. If any one had told me then that I would be selling my art at shops like Bloomingdales and now Nordstrom, I would have said they were crazy.

Well, this crazy idea is real in 2017. What a year!  All this thanks to my licensing partner DENY Designs. They have made it possible for me to sell an art piece at Bloomingdales and now a throw pillow, "Blades of Grass",  at Nordstrom. To say that I am excited is an understatement. To have my Mom still alive and celebrating with me is fantastic.

Stay tuned.....lots more art and opportunities in my future!

Spring at Bloomingdales

Spring is here and the news I was patiently waiting to share with you, I am now allowed to share!
I was informed today by DENY Designs that my art on canvas, "Color My World", is now available for sale by Bloomingdales. Never in my wildest dream did I think I would be designing for the home and to be selling at Bloomingdales is beyond words. I am also now keeping another secret from you. Stay tuned for another reveal in the near future.

Besides painting in various mediums, I now paint for art exhibitions and for art licensing on products. This just proves that it is never too late to start something new in your life. .You may say, but I thought you had retired....and I have. This is definitely not work for me. I tell my family that if I was not doing this, and getting paid for it, I would be paying for therapy. Art is my therapy and it makes me happy. Hope it brightens your day.

Moving by Design

I have recently been obsessed with patterns. I signed up for a class this summer so that I could learn to digitally design patterns. So when I received an email from the Lowe inviting me to a Moving by Design to create expressive pattern movement, I figured I must go. The Beaux Art Gallery at the Lowe Art Museum was set up with tables, paper and pencils.  The workshop leader was Carol Kaminsky, Dance Program Director at the Frost School of Music. What happened next was a total surprise!

Carol asked us to stand, turned on some jive music and asked us to move around the gallery, any which way, to loosen ourselves up.  We were then asked to partner with someone to work with at the tables. We were given paper and pencil. The papers were folded in half. We then were asked to just doodle away on the paper, no specific design. One person was to lead and the other would follow the person's design on their half. The designs were not quite the same, but interesting. We then turned the paper over and switched roles. Our designs were again quite different and it was almost obvious to tell who lead.

We were then asked to stand in a circle, soft music was turned on and we each interpreted our design on the paper. Who knew that a paper design could create such beautiful moves? The gallery was then split in half, just like the drawing paper. The partners walked up each side of the divide expressing their drawings with their hands, feet and torso.  This is when the title of the workshop made sense. Interesting to experience creativity on paper and on the dance floor. Not exactly what I expected, but creative and expressive nonetheless. Different mediums of expression!

A Big Thank You

I want to thank all of you that voted, shared and promoted my designs in the Elsa and Me Dress Challenge. I was informed that one of my designs has made it to the final five. Finalists were selected based on a variety of factors including popularity, color palette, brand fit, and repeatability of the pattern.  It is now up to the company to decide on the winning design.

Thanks again to Vividly and Elsa and me for the opportunity to turn my art into fashion!
