Summer Exhibits: Leesburg and Ocala

Winter in Florida has always been known as the season for art. Lots of exhibitions and art festivals take place in the paradise-like weather outdoors. However, although there are not as many outdoor festivals, exhibitions are still taking place in the cool indoors. I was fortunate to exhibit my art in two nearby towns, Leesburg and Ocala. The Leesburg Center for the Arts is the artistic hub in Leesburg. There are exhibitis, classes, children's camp, lectures and more. The exhibit From Deep Withing - The Artist's Closet gave the artists an opportunity to exhibit pieces that they may have not shown or forgotten. The opening reception had a great turnout. If you missed it, the exhibit will be up until July 20, 2024.

In Ocala, the Marion Cultural Alliance creates a thriving art presence in the area. The current exhibiton Midsummer Dreams gets you into the summer vibes. The exhibition is at the Brick Center for the Arts in Ocala. A beautiful summer display of various mediums and photography. Step into this cool gallery and experience the summer heat. The show will be up until July 7, 2024.

My Biggest Fan

Last month I lost my biggest fan.........my mother. She lived 92 years and her life was not without problems. For one, she was not able to walk for the last few years. Still, she loved life, loved us and the beauty around her.

It was so exciting to show her my new creations. She would always respond, "Que belleza" or "Precioso". She may have found them beautiful, but would say that there was nothing better than my clouds and seascapes.  She would get so excited whenever I made a sale. She valued money and would follow her excitement on the sale by asking if I received a good price for it, which always made me laugh. I have not painted anything new since she passed, but I have made sales. It is extremely sad not to share the good news with my biggest fan. 

I was happy she went to all of my art exhibitions and projects, until illness kept her home. She was curious about the Wynnwood Art District. It was difficult to take her in the wheelchair, but she had a tour from the car. She wanted to see the colorful umbrella display  in Coral Gables. She was also able to enjoy that. She enjoyed seeing the beauty at Fairchild Tropical Botanic Gardens and seeing the butterflies.  Her love of life and beauty kept her interested and ready for everything. Like her, I will continue to enjoy the beauty around me and remember her with each of my creations.

No one will ever love me like she did.

Oceania Marina

Traveling is not only fun, but an inspiration for my art and photography. Our last trip was a Baltic Sea cruise. I was very much looking forward to visiting those countries. Little did I know that the ship, Oceania Marina, was just what I would love. It was like a floating gallery. As soon as you walk in, you can't help, but be in awe of the grand staircase and tables.  It was Lalique!!

It was also impressive to look around and see art on the walls from some very well known artists. As I read the labels, I noticed that there seemed to be an art tour available. The information desk supplied us with the head pieces and we enjoyed an afternoon of looking and learning about the art and the artists. It was  surprising to even see pieces from a local Miami artist.

The ship also has an artist loft with an artist in residence. She held classes on board, which I was happy to attend. It was relaxing, a way to meet other  artists or just people interested in art.

All in all, a fabulous inspiring trip!

Reciprocal Consciousness Exhibit

Reciprocal Consciousness is a South Florida Pen Women Art Basel Collective Exhibition. The National League of American Pen Women Coral Gables Chapter, along with members of Fort Lauderdale and Boca Raton Chapters, will participate in Reciprocal Consciousness. A group show that will bring the best art created in South Florida to ArtServe in time to celebrate Art Basel week.

We will be exhibiting works in oil, acrylic, watercolor, photography and more. In addition, we will have music and refreshments .

Miami Watercolor Society 46th Annual Fall Exhibition

It is always an honor to be juried into an art exhibition. It is even a bigger deal when you are up against the great talent of the Miami Watercolor Society members and the juror is the amazing, Paul Jackson.

I submitted two entries and the one below was chosen. It was painted from a photograph by my friend, Niki Simon Blacker. Niki lives in Miami Beach and has a morning routine, which entails feeding all of the stray cats in the area. She also takes great photos as she walks past the art deco buildings, storefronts on Lincoln Road and out to the sand, sea and birds. I have been inspired by many of her photos.

My Style? Don't Have One.

I always admire artists that you can definitely tell who they are by their art. It may be because of their subject matter, style or palette. This is great for marketing and business. I could do that since I have been told that seascapes are my "thing" and I love painting them.

I have given it great thought because I know people are right, my beaches seem to sell faster than anything else and will identify me. However, I find that I am inspired by the world around me and that is what makes me paint.I also get inspired by various mediums. Although, oils were my first love, I moved on to acrylics, watercolors and, most recently, alcohol inks. My subjects are varied, the only common source is that I love color, but it is mostly about my surroundings or inspirations from friends and their photos.

Miami Watercolor Society - 45th Annual Fall Exhibition

Fall may be the end of summer, but it is a time when nature exhibits its most beautiful colors and artists begin the many exhibits of the art season. 

The Miami Watercolor Society has had this Fall exhibit for the past 45 years and I can personally say that each year the bar gets raised higher and higher. I usually am just glad to be selected to exhibit. That, in itself, is an award for me; to be among these great artists is reward enough.

The exhibit will be held this year at the beautiful Coconut Grove Arts Festival Gallery. Below you will find the information. My piece "Wash Day", inspired by a recent trip to Portugal will be on exhibit.

Return to Grovehouse Artists

Many years ago, I was a member of a great little artist co-op in Coconut Grove, Grovehouse Artists. It was a nice place to exhibit and socialize, but the most important thing I took from that experience was life-long friendships. The group inspired me and exposed me to many other groups. It was through the people I met there that I was able to participate in art in public places: painting a peacock, which is still standing on Grand Avenue and the manatee that was displayed in downtown South Miami and now lives in a private home in the area. I was able to take the course with Debra Cortese "I'd Rather be in the Studio" that pushed me into social media; a life. and business, changing experience.It was also a workshop with Debra about licensing my art that sent me in that direction and I now have many products through DENY Designs, Kess Inhouse and Geckorouge.

I think you can see that a lot of what is happening in my life today had its roots with the Grovehouse Artists. I recently re-joined their group, which is now "without walls'. The work is on line and social media with exhibits that take place wherever possible in the area. 

We will have our yearly Deering Estates exhibit with an opening reception on June 15th from 7 - 9 pm. On this night, the Deering is free to the public and you are all invited. The piece below, and hopefully a couple more, will be on exhibit. Join us!!

January Artist at Isabel's

Happy New Year!

We are only one week into the new year and I am fortunate enough to be the featured artist in January at Isabel's Fine Home Accessories in South Miami. You are all invited to attend the opening reception on Friday, January 8th, between 6-9 pm.

On The Neck

I hear my friends complain all the time about the stores having Christmas decorations out and it is not even Halloween. It is so true, but if you are like me, you get your holiday shopping done early and spend Thanksgiving and December, cooking, baking and enjoying the family.

It also seems that on line shopping is gaining popularity because it avoids the drive, the crowds and can be done in the middle of the night when you have trouble sleeping.

Now that I have I told you this, I must introduce to you to yet another art product that can be purchased on line. No rooms on your walls, not in shape for one of my artsy bikini? Well, you can always hang it on your neck!!!

My new licensing partner Resin Cherry is now starting to put my art on pendants. You can definitely be the one wearing a unique piece of art.
