Pattern Design Vs Fine Art

Art has always been a  part of my life. As a kid, I enjoyed coloring. As I got older I enjoyed sketching, but never planning on it being a career so I never took art classes in school or college. It was always something I did in my spare time, as a hobby. It came naturally.

Once I retired, I decided to paint full time, take some workshops and give selling a shot. I found that my hobby became a part-time job that benefited me with my anxiety.   I then became familiar with pattern designs. I love creating art for home decor products and patterns work best.  The problem is that pattern design is learned and most of the work is done via a computer. I can no longer pick up a brush and do what has come naturally.

I believe many artists are like me, curious about working with different mediums, with different objects and with a desire to create. As much as I love pattern design, it is something I need to learn.. I took an online course and created the two below. Since I  have forgotten all that I learned,  any pattern I create now will need to be done by hand. If in the future, I have time, I will definitely enroll in a course.

Art to Wear and More

There is nothing more exciting than to partner with a company and see your designs on products. My newest partner is all the way in the UK and what can be better than to spread my designs in another continent. I am proud to introduce you to the many products Contrado.UK is now creating with my designs.

I realize how much fun and therapeutic it is to create designs. It is also a way to add color to this world, besides hanging on a wall. More and more I find myself looking at patterns in everyday life that inspire me to put them on products.

Contrado.UK gives me the opportunity to add my creations to their many, varied products that can either beautify a home or your self, as well as products that are functional. How great is that?

At Nordstrom!

When I was a young girl living in Miami Beach, newly arrived from Cuba, and walking down Lincoln Road, I could only look at the windows of the high end shops and dream. My dreams then were to one day be able to afford those beautiful things. If any one had told me then that I would be selling my art at shops like Bloomingdales and now Nordstrom, I would have said they were crazy.

Well, this crazy idea is real in 2017. What a year!  All this thanks to my licensing partner DENY Designs. They have made it possible for me to sell an art piece at Bloomingdales and now a throw pillow, "Blades of Grass",  at Nordstrom. To say that I am excited is an understatement. To have my Mom still alive and celebrating with me is fantastic.

Stay tuned.....lots more art and opportunities in my future!

Spring at Bloomingdales

Spring is here and the news I was patiently waiting to share with you, I am now allowed to share!
I was informed today by DENY Designs that my art on canvas, "Color My World", is now available for sale by Bloomingdales. Never in my wildest dream did I think I would be designing for the home and to be selling at Bloomingdales is beyond words. I am also now keeping another secret from you. Stay tuned for another reveal in the near future.

Besides painting in various mediums, I now paint for art exhibitions and for art licensing on products. This just proves that it is never too late to start something new in your life. .You may say, but I thought you had retired....and I have. This is definitely not work for me. I tell my family that if I was not doing this, and getting paid for it, I would be paying for therapy. Art is my therapy and it makes me happy. Hope it brightens your day.

Urban Outfitters Denver Colorado

For weeks now, my colorful pillow "Color My World" has been selling on line by Urban Outfitters. As if that wasn't exciting enough, I received an email from Lisa, the Artist Relations Manager for DENY Designs, letting me know that my pillow was spotted at a Denver Colorado Urban Outfitter. The day she let me know I had laryngitis and it saved the neighborhood from hearing my screams of joy.

I had been visiting a Dadeland Mall store taking photos for some of my DENY fellow artists that don't live in Miami so that they could feel the joy of their product at a store. I always secretly wished that some day I would see some of my tropical art right here in a Miami store. Having Lisa inform me was a secret dream come true and having DENY Creative Director photograph it for me was a PLUS. Someone had done the same for me and I so appreciated it!!!

For those of you all over the country, and the world, don't fear! You can still get it on line HERE.

Here's the Denver display..........love it!!

Happy! Happy! Happy!

We have been hearing the expression "Happy! Happy! Happy" a lot lately because of the Duck Dynasty Show. I also hear it daily when I ask my Mom if she is happy and her response is "Happy, Happy. Happy" and she has never watched the show.

Today I can say that the expression is mine. I was just informed that one of my abstract watercolor painting on a throw pillow by the home decor company DENY Designs has been selected to be sold by Urban Outfitters. It is so fantastic to see my image selected and purchased.  The pleasure can only be compared as the applause an actor/musician gets on stage.

Now here is my "Happy, Happy, Happy"!

October - Breast Cancer Awareness Month

It seems that we are hearing more and more each day of someone diagnosed with cancer. I, for one, have lost members of my family to this disease. For women, breast cancer seems to be the common one. Whenever I am with a group of women, there are always a few in the group that are breast cancer survivors.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. My licensing partner DENY Designs has decided to help to fight for a cure. They challenged their artists to come up with a design regarding breast cancer awareness in our own artistic style. I thought this was a great way to help and designed  “Step On Cancer”.

Here’s a way to get a beautiful piece of functional art and, at the same time,  20% of the purchase price will be donated to the Denver Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure
