SOBO Gallery Winter Garden

It is always exciting to find new venues to exhibit my art. SOBO Gallery is located in beautiful Winter Garden. This past year I had the honor of being selected to exhibit there. The gallery location makes it possible for people to park at the garage across the street for free, enjoy the art and walk the downtown area for dinner and drinks The space is nicely lit and has big windows to bring in the light. I hope to continue exhibiting at SOBO. Below are a few pieces I have shown there thus far. Stay tuned for upcomig exhibitions.

Miami Watercolor Society 46th Annual Fall Exhibition

It seems that the bar to exhibit with the Miami Watercolor Society gets higher each year. So much talent in this group and the art they produce is outstanding. This is the reason why I am so happy to be part of this exhibition and to have been judged by the great Soon Y. Warren.

Below is the piece I will be exhibiting, along with the detail of the upcoming opening reception.
See you there!

Date: November 2, 2019
Time: 6-8 pm

Capri Restaurant Exhibit

Homestead Center for the Arts is partnering with the owner of Capri Restaurant which has an area designated for art exhibitions. I was fortunate to find out about having my art displayed for the first time in this community. The opening reception had to be moved from September to October 13th, but all that matters is that most of us survived Hurricane Irma with minimal damage.

We are all ready to move on and see some interesting and wonderful art instead of the piles of debris at the curbside.  The new opening reception info is as follows:

Place: Capri Restaurant
Address: 935 S Krome Ave,
                 Florida City, FL 33034
Date: October 13, 2017
Time: 6 - 9 pm

At Nordstrom!

When I was a young girl living in Miami Beach, newly arrived from Cuba, and walking down Lincoln Road, I could only look at the windows of the high end shops and dream. My dreams then were to one day be able to afford those beautiful things. If any one had told me then that I would be selling my art at shops like Bloomingdales and now Nordstrom, I would have said they were crazy.

Well, this crazy idea is real in 2017. What a year!  All this thanks to my licensing partner DENY Designs. They have made it possible for me to sell an art piece at Bloomingdales and now a throw pillow, "Blades of Grass",  at Nordstrom. To say that I am excited is an understatement. To have my Mom still alive and celebrating with me is fantastic.

Stay tuned.....lots more art and opportunities in my future!

Spring at Bloomingdales

Spring is here and the news I was patiently waiting to share with you, I am now allowed to share!
I was informed today by DENY Designs that my art on canvas, "Color My World", is now available for sale by Bloomingdales. Never in my wildest dream did I think I would be designing for the home and to be selling at Bloomingdales is beyond words. I am also now keeping another secret from you. Stay tuned for another reveal in the near future.

Besides painting in various mediums, I now paint for art exhibitions and for art licensing on products. This just proves that it is never too late to start something new in your life. .You may say, but I thought you had retired....and I have. This is definitely not work for me. I tell my family that if I was not doing this, and getting paid for it, I would be paying for therapy. Art is my therapy and it makes me happy. Hope it brightens your day.

Lincoln Road and Me

Back in 1962, I arrived from Cuba with my family and we moved to Miami Beach. It was quite different than the young hip place it is today. Lincoln Road was then new, shiny and a place to shop at high end stores or go to a movie. Back in those days, we could not do much of that, but I do remember looking at the pretty things I could not afford and knowing I had to "make" it in order to have them one day. My goal was only to learn to speak English and excel in school. Drawing was just a past time that did not seem to fit in the life of newly arrived foreigner.

Fast forward now to 2015, and Lincoln Road and I have grown and evolved. The high end shops and small theaters are gone, replaced with many restaurants, sidewalk eating and young hip residents and tourists. I, too,  have changed. I am now a retired grandmother, painting full time and able to buy anything I want.

The new Lincoln Road and I are coming together once again in our new ways. The Art Center of South Florida is located on Lincoln Road, The Miami watercolor Society, of which I am a member, recently had a show juried to be exhibited there. My piece "Spring Rain" has been selected. On February 18th, we will have an opening reception from 6-9 pm and I will be there to toast the new me and the new Lincoln Road

We have both had  our ups and downs................but we made it!

I am Inked

I had been hearing lots of good things happening at Canvas and Corks in Dahlonega, Georgia.  How could I not check it out? Art and wine.....our favorites!

The minute I walked in I was met by one of their resident artist, Ann McCormack. She gave me a tour of the gallery and I learned that a favorite local artist Grant Searcy has his studio/gallery there also, plus another oil painter I did not get to meet. The artists work, teach and exhibit there. You can also step up to the bar to taste fantastic wines from Three Sisters Vineyards. So far, I was impressed. I started talking to Ann and looking at her art, which looked very much like my latest obsession, watercolor abstracts. Ann invited me to come back and join her alcohol ink class which is the medium used for the pieces I was admiring. My husband and sister would have to find some entertainment while I attended. With their encouragement, I returned to have so much fun with color for the next two hours. I left feeling that this is something I must do. My three pieces below were the results of this visit.  Now to buy the supplies and continue experimenting.

A chance meeting has now added another medium to express myself! Thanks, Ann!

Happy! Happy! Happy!

We have been hearing the expression "Happy! Happy! Happy" a lot lately because of the Duck Dynasty Show. I also hear it daily when I ask my Mom if she is happy and her response is "Happy, Happy. Happy" and she has never watched the show.

Today I can say that the expression is mine. I was just informed that one of my abstract watercolor painting on a throw pillow by the home decor company DENY Designs has been selected to be sold by Urban Outfitters. It is so fantastic to see my image selected and purchased.  The pleasure can only be compared as the applause an actor/musician gets on stage.

Now here is my "Happy, Happy, Happy"!

A Look Back!

The year 2013, was full of surprises. For one, I discovered that I enjoy seeing my art on fashion.  What better way to feel good all day than to look at your art as you look at yourself. I joined a company called Vividly and decided that it was way too much fun to stop.

As if that wasn't enough, through Vividly I found out about a contest for another fashion house in New York, Elsa and Me. To my surprise, my design was chosen and my dress is available on their site.

I also decided to make my art available to other companies and joined Kess Inhouse. This company offers home decor products. Through them,  I am able to offer my art on placemats, cutting boards and more.

Looking back is always great and inspiring, but looking forward is the only way to go. I want to sketch daily and further develop my art. This includes portraits that I have always feared.  Stick around in 2014 and see the new challenges I tackle.

Something New!

It seems that I am always taking on new challenges. I went back to painting full time after retirement. The idea was to exhibit here and there, when possible, and make a few on-line sales, if possible. I can now say that my painting has led to designing and I am just loving it. Although I have been painting for over 30 years, I am not one of those that grew up with computers. Everything I know I DID NOT learn in kindergarten, as the book says. I have had an awful lot of technical learning take place as an adult and still more than I can ever learn in my time left. Unfortunately, a lot of designing takes place in the computer. These designs are my first using a repeat pattern.

You have seen some of my latest creations on a previous blog by Vividly. Now, I want to introduce you to my dress challenge by Elsa and me and my three designs. Elsa and Me is a women’s clothing line designed to empower women to feel feminine and fulfilled in their everyday life. Produced in New York City with organic cotton fabric, the ELSA dress is fit to go from 9-5 to the chic cocktail party seamlessly.Vividly is very pleased to partner with Elsa and Me on a design challenge to find the perfect print for the sleeveless ELSA dress. This is the first time the traditionally solid-colored ELSA will feature a print!

In order to see these dresses made, I would have to acquire the most votes.....and that is another challenge!
I will post their photos below and the link where you can vote. Feel free to share with friends and family!!

Time for Art

It seems that I can't get enough watches. I must have over a dozen. I remember that one of the first things I bought when I got paid at a part time job in high school was a Woody Woodpecker watch. I loved the way the bird moved and the entire picture on the face of my watch. Who would have known from that purchase that one day I would have my art on the faces of watches? I know there are many of you out there just like me, in love with all kinds of watches.

Here are a few samples of the ones I have available with Zazzle:

Chop...Serve...or Frame!

I always say that everyone is creative in some way. Some can paint, some can sing, some can decorate and some can cook.  Why not bring a visual art into the kitchen to inspire your culinary creation? Yes, my new licensing partner Kess Inhouse has now created sturdy tempered glass cutting boards that will make everything you chop look like a dutch painting. They are non-skid and dishwasher safe. You can cut, chop, serve or frame, all of these unique cutting boards are gorgeous.

Below are a few. To view my entire collection click HERE.
