How do you sketch in Miami and have total strangers physically hold your sketch and see it all over the country? You participate in The Sketchbook Project. What is the sketchbook project? The project is described as a "concert tour, but with sketchbooks." Artists selected their topics and sketched during the last few months of 2010. The sketchbooks will be exhibited at galleries and museums across the country. They each have a bar code allowing artists to keep track of their sketchbooks, and how many are viewing it, on line. After the tour, the sketchbooks will be available for viewing as part of the permanent collection at The Brooklyn Art Library. This is the first year I participate. I have since found that a few of my artists friends in Miami are also participating. Here are some of the local artists:

Nancy Martini - http://arthousecoop.com/users/nancy-martini
Elizabet Chacon - http://arthousecoop.com/users/elizabetchaconart
Angeline Marie Martinez - http://www.angelinemarie.net/Welcome.html
Sheri Friedman (Blu Moon Studios) -http://www.artclassesinmiami.com/
The sketchbooks were in Austin, Texas this week and heading towards Portland, Maine. Maybe next year, the tour can come to Miami.
