All About The Bling

If you have been to the mall lately…..”It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas”.
I know, you are upset because we have not even had our turkey and dressing for Thanksgiving. The reality is that many of you may not be decorating for Christmas, but definitely beginning to think about the gifts. I have decided to give you different options of beautiful, functional art pieces.  It is so easy to do your shopping from your computers and even in your pajamas…..how easy is that? Here are some gifts that will not require knowing the recipient’s size.

Wouldn’t it be nice to wear a piece of art?  Here are some suggestions………….

The Sea - Watercolor - http://www.zazzle.com/the_sea_necklace-177309710534599874

Of course, a complete gift would be the  art necklace and another functional art piece to keep it in….like a Bling Box.  What is a Bling Box? A fabulous wall décor that stores your bling. Lots of designs to choose from. Here is a sample…………….

Northeast Georgia Arts Tour 2011

Last week we went to Georgia. The trip had been planned in advance, but I was disappointed that I would not be able to attend the Miami Watercolor Society 2011 Fall Exhibition opening reception and receive my award. To my surprise, I was just in time for the Northeast Georgia 2011 Arts Tour.  What a treat! Four counties open their doors and make it possible for you to meet over 100 local artists--painters, potters, jewelry makers, fiber, glass, metal artists and more demonstrating art in the making. Our first stop was above the Dahlonega Welcome Center. As promised, there was not only art, but artists creating. At this location, I ran into Oscar Rayneri  demonstrating watercolors.

We left the historic downtown center and traveled a few miles through the beautiful Georgia mountains to our next location, The Funky Chicken. We were greeted there by Christina White. She gave us a tour and demonstrated her wood carving. After some hot cider and homemade cake, we went to our next location, Moonrush Jewels. This working studio houses a husband and wife team, Paul and Florence, creating beautiful jewelry with stones. I had to buy a necklace.

As if this was not enough, we continued the tour and ended up at The Art Loft. At this location, artist Anita Elder and Dorothy Abercrombie  had an art activity for all visitors. My husband and I were given a piece of a large photograph, canvas and paint. We painted and all visitor's art will be compiled to create the entire painting. All participants will be emailed a photo of the finished piece.

I met so many talented artists in Dahlonega and my 84 year old mother enjoyed picking up my award in Miami. It was a week full of color from the trees and the local artists.

Home Designs - Bedroom

Color isn’t just a big part of painting and an element of art. Color is used to accessorize an outfit,  to update a room or highlight architectural features. During this time of the year, we are all busy making plans for the holidays and it isn’t all about the menu. We want our homes to have a “holiday” look and an updated  look.

What better way than with functional art pieces? You don’t need to buy new furniture or even paint an entire room, but just add a new accessory. As I wrote in my previous blog, I will be writing in the next few weeks of ways to update your house or get a unique gift for that special person in your life.  Here are some of the items available on line. How easy to do this without having to park at a mall, fight the crowds and come home with aching feet and a headache…......do it painlessly on line.

For the bedroom, it could be a new duvet cover:
