Miami Watercolor Society - 36th Annual Fall Exhibition

I joined the Miami Watercolor Society in April of 2008. It is a great place to meet other artists, find out about exhibiting possibilities, watch outstanding demonstrations and enroll in worshops from visiting artists. I got up enough nerve to enter their juried fall exhibition last year and, to my surprise and delight, I was selected. The painting was from a picture I had taken that summer while staying at Sanibel and a restaurant there called Mc T's. I still remember my anxiety and the number of times I started that painting. The exhibition was at a beautiful gallery on Brickell.

This past spring, I decided to do it again. I painted from a picture I took at the South Miami Art Show years ago of lemonade cups and lemons. Once again, I struggled with the colors and the very dark background until I felt good enough to enter it. I could not believe I was selected to exhibit. The location was at the Deering Estates and what a beautiful exhibit that was. The location with the views art, and music made for a wonderful night.

I am now happy to say that I was again selected to exhibit at this year's fall exhibition. In August I took a batik workshop with Lynda Wellens and I knew that my entry would be using this new technique. Not only am I in love with the process, but I chose to paint something I also love, the shadows on leaves at Fairchild Tropical Botanic Gardens. This year's show will take place at Miami International University of Art and Design. The entries for this show are incredible. The works are getting better and better. With the amount of talent at the Miami Watercolor Society, it will be very challenging to get selected next spring. So for now, I will enjoy the moment.
