The Ramble - Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden

If you have never visited Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden, you must add it to your "bucket list". It is a collection of the most wonderful species of plants. I always say, "Why go to therapy?Just visit Fairchild".
Every year the garden holds a garden party. They sell plants, spices, honey, garden items, unique gift items and art. Add to that food and music and it makes for a wonderful day. I was fortunate enough to participate again this year in the art exhibits and here is a snapshot of the art. Enjoy!

Mad Hatter Art Festival 2009

What a weekend!I spent Saturday and Sunday in Coconut Grove at the Mad Hatter Art Festival. I consider myself a "closet artist". I love to paint, but don't necessarily care to be selling it in an outdoor show. With a few of my friends from the gallery participating, I joined in. The weather could not have been better, cool and dry. After the previous day jitters over, I actually relaxed and had a great time.
The Mad Hatter Festival requires that all artists wear crazy hats; the hats were incredible. Imagine telling creative people to come in unique hats. I met a lot of nice people and sold some art. Another first for me was the Grove drum circle. It is an area on the sidewalk where a circle of drums are set up and anyone can join in and bang a drum. I decided to join and and had no idea how much fun it can be. I highly recommend it. A video of the event and all of the magnificent hats will be out shortly. For now, it is time to get ready for the Ramble at Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden this weekend.

All In The Family

Art has always been a part of my life. Because of that, art was always a part of my son's life. He was dragged to every art show, every museum in every city we visited on vacation and private art classes at the Biltmore when he was only 5 or 6. He decided not to pursue the arts, but to this day he still tries to sketch and create whenever possible. I am now blessed to have a two year old granddaughter. I am reliving through her the joy I experienced while coloring. We don't know what she will grow up to be, but her love for colors and creating is there and will probably enrich her life forever.

COCONUT GROVE ART STROLL

What a month!!! If one show is not enough......how about FOUR! The month started out with the Miami Watercolor Society 36th Annual Fall Exhibition which is still underway.(http://www.miamiwatercolor.org/exhibitions.html). It is always an honor to be juried into this show because there is great talent in that group. A week later it was the intake for the Grove House Artists Gallery (http://www.grovehouseartists.net/) . Tonight is the opening reception for this show in conjunction with the Coconut Grove Art Stroll. Our gallery is right on the promenade where there is art on the sidewalks, live music, restaurants samplings and free drinks. All galleries come to life during art stroll, not to mention the Commodore Plaza block party. Next week, November 14th and 15th, is the Mad Hatter Festival in Coconut Grove (http://www.madhatterfestival.com/). What a fun weekend with lots of art, music, food and, of course, the crazy hats! That only leaves me enough time to take off my crazy hat, put on the sunscreen and head out to Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden for the Ramble (.http://www.fairchildgarden.org/Events/?date=2009-11&eventid=356) . After all of this, I need to have enough energy to get ready for Thanksgiving and Christmas. I still would not change a thing......LIFE IS GOOD!!
